"I want to send along this note of thanks to you and your staff at Whitcomb House. During the past few months I have come to know and witness the kind, compassionate and knowledgeable staff throughout your organization, from Karen at the front desk, Ron and Blair in maintenance, Barbara and the many caring aides, as well as Flo' in the hair salon. I'm sure your realize the comfort you and your staff provide for the residents themselves as well as their families, but I still wanted to share this with you. As you know, I have a particular fondness for the residents in Memory Care and wish to thank that staff in particular in their role in taking care of my mother. Again, I have witnessed first hand on a number of occasions the kind of care and comfort that staff provides to all of the residents. Their efforts and the way they interact with the residents show a genuine concern and interest in the well being of everyone."

"We are both clinical psychologists and have had experience before with assisted living facilities. We want to tell you how utterly impressed we were with Whitcomb House, the staff, the program, the physical set up and the atmosphere you have created for the senior residents.
It was a bit of a struggle to persuade our mother to move from her assisted living place in Florida to this part of the country, but it only took her three days before she was exclaiming how much she loved her room and the people there. We we made some special requests, re: medicines, hearing aids, etc. the staff bent over backwards to facilitate her care. Everybody was so friendly not just to her, but to us all as well.
We kept congratulating ourselves for being smart enough to have chosen Whitcomb House for her placement, but as professionals in the health care field, we know that it has taken a lot of planning on your part to have created such a wonderful residence. We were especially struck by the high staff morale.
And our mother, who was at times a very critical person about 'northern cooking,' kept telling us how excellent were the meals at Whitcomb House. In all of her 96 years, we have never seen her so happy.
Please feel free to use this letter as our endorsement of Whitcomb House.

"There is a difference between living and living well. My husband has been at Whitcomb House for almost three years. I have had peace of mind and comfort knowing that he is safe and well cared for."

"I have lived at Whitcomb House since December 04, 2004. I have enjoyed my room and all the residents are friendly toward me. The food is excellent and the cooks do a great job in trying to meet our needs. I have everything I need here - especially my laundry which is picked up and delivered the same day. The staff work hard at pleasing all of the residents and make all of us feel safe. Whitcomb House is better than a four star hotel."

"Whitcomb House provides the "arms around you" type of caring that is so essential to support activities of daily living. We provide a family setting that allows residents to feel safe and secure. Each one of our residents is very special to us and is cared for in a special way: that is allowing them to keep their independence and dignity.
As Health Care Coordinator, I have found it helpful to work one on one with a new resident during the adjustment period. It is rewarding to see the outcome after a few days from being sad about leaving their home and then suddenly beginning to laugh and interact with staff and other residents.
I want to thank Chris and Pam Delaney for allowing me to utilize my skills at Whitcomb House is assessing and identifying the resident's needs early and implementing care plans to support our residents and that also serve as a prevention against potential problems.
Whitcomb House is a place to see, but best of all it's a place
to be."
Barbara Chandler
Health Care Coordinator at Whitcomb House
"Whitcomb House is a home away from home. It reminds me of a country inn, a very pleasant and comfy atmosphere. Activities are planned every day such as bingo, trivia, large crossword puzzles, movies, etc. As for the excellent food! Just like dinner at the Ritz! Try it, you'll like it."

Current Whitcomb House Resident
Whitcomb House is owned and operated by Pamela and Christopher Delaney. It is named for Hazel Whitcomb Lappin, Chris' grandmother. Chris would like to share with you some remembrances of Nana.
"NANA lived a long and challenging life, ninety-six years, and through it all kept a keen perception of others and a dry sense of humor. She rarely complained. She would much rather gently poke fun, usually at herself first.
Nana and I were close, in part because I joined her in not believing that she would become 'a little old lady' as she aged. She did not have much use for being 'old'. She knew that her ears, eyes and legs didn't work so well, as she got into here nineties, but she kept a spry attitude in that creaky body and therefore was 'younger' than many people half her age. Hazel Whitcomb Lappin did not like to be patronized. She enjoyed good food, good fun and good company. It is these memories of Nana that have guided us in most everything that we do at Whitcomb House."
